Rain Delay

We are SO ready to get started on harvesting the corn but the weather doesn't seem to want to cooperate. It rained Sunday evening and all day yesterday and is cloudy today.
I guess it's ok because we have the last barn of pigs coming in tomorrow night and we need to get that barn all ready yet today. We are working our calves and my in laws calves (castrating, dehorning, pouring and implanting) and Preg checking our cows and my in laws cows all day tomorrow and Thursday morning. It's going to be one MUDDY mess! I will try to take pictures if I have time during the process.
I am praying that the sun will come out soon!

We were suppose to work our calves today but opted to wait for better conditions.
Be safe in the muddy mess. It makes it hard to move and get out of the way sometimes.

I am glad you got your beans out before we got all this rain. It is still raining here, light. It holds up work for my hubby, too.
Reading your post reminded me of why I did not want to marry a farmer, but I think a dirt contractor comes pretty close on messy, yucky stuff.
As Amy said, be careful with the cattle, and I hope the sun shines soon.

Hopefully the weather well get better. It rained here yesterday and this morning, the sun is trying to come out, but it has been damp and cool. Gloomy weather and not much fun to work cows in! Or as my kids say, they can play slip in slide in the mud and work the cows! They are always looking at the brighter side, I am thinking about all the extra laundry!! LOL

Is it true that when you castrate them you wrap a rubber band type thing really tight on their uhhh... gonads... and let them dry up and fall off? Just wondering...

Signed,
Your silly friend who doesn't know a whole lot about livestock and farming.

So do you ever get more than a few hours off? I think I am going to go take a nap. Just reading your blog makes me tired.

Wow! you sure have a lot to do on your farm!! It must be hard too when you depend on the weather to cooperate. We need more rain here, got some on the weekend but not enough. Be careful in that mud not to slip under a cow!!!

Praying with you for that sun. Today is the first day it is beginning to feel a little bit like fall around here.

Michelle....we did take Jeremy to Sioux Falls for his birthday dinner so yes, I do get some time off but it seems like never a whole day. It would be nice to have a day off (or a weekend) now and again....but the livestock need to eat and checked on. We do hire help and take time off once in awhile.

Susan....the guys are pretty good about giving me some time in the am to get caught up on house stuff but I usually end up using that time at the computer and juggling to get the house work done.

Yeah I'm sick of the rain too! I need some sunshine in my life :)!! Jeff and I were just thinking that this is going to delay the farmers. Hopefully for not too long though!

Sounds like you have plenty of other things to do though! You guys sure are busy!!

Have a great day!

Hear ya. I wish it would stop raining.
My parents had 1 hour( I kid you not) left of beans and maybe 3 fields of corn.
Frustrating. Now it will take awhile for everything to dry out.
