Going to Vegas

Awhile back I posted my "bucket list", things I would like to do in my lifetime. One of the things on my list was to visit Las Vegas. Well, guess what people.....I am going to Vegas!!!!! Chad and I , along with our friends Wayne and Laurie are flying out in a few weeks to see the sites of Vegas.

Since we got married 20 years ago, Chad and I have only been out of the state of SD a few times and that was to visit my sister when she lived in MN. The extent of our vacations has been to travel to the other side of the state to visit my mom. This is our first vacation alone, without kids!!! I love my kids dearly but am so excited about being able to take an adult vacation.

I am extremely claustrophobic so the plane ride is going to be really interesting. I saw my doctor and got a prescription just in case I freak out and need to take something. I am hoping I can handle it without taking anything so I can enjoy every minute of this trip.

So.....any suggestions on what to see or do while we are there?

You are so funny. I would have never thought to get a prescription for a plane ride. When I went to Vegas, I had so much fun walking through the different casinos and up and down the strip. (I'm not a gambler, so the food, sights and pools are what I was interested in.) I wish I would have gone on a tour of the Hoover Dam. A friend of mine went on the best DAM tour around--that's how it was advertised. I really think you need to go on the ride (at night) that is on the Stratosphere tower, and if you live to tell us about it, post photos when you get back!

The Cirque du Soleil show at the Bellagio is breathtaking - magical.Google it up. The hand blown glass ceiling in the lobby is pretty neat along with the garden area behind the lobby in the Bellagio. The Venetian offers the romance of Italy - it is beautiful and worth seeing - I like the shops at Caesars (though I seldom buy anything). I haven't seen the new Wynn hotel - he built the Bellagio but I'm sure its pretty fancy. Take note of where you walk in the casinos they try to keep you lost so you never leave! Also the strip downtown lights up with a show every night - its kind of neat too. Hoover Dam is pretty cool too - Have fun!!

How exciting! We'd really like to go for our 10th anniversary but I think we'll have to wait until next year. Friends of ours are going down on spring break. Like Michelle, I'm not a gambler but I still want to see what all the fuss is about! Have fun!! Can't wait to see the pics!

Exciting! We go to Vegas a few times a year. Well, its much easier for us considering its only a 3 hour car ride. Mister & I are making it a tradition to escape in December each year for his birthday. Right after the xmas holiday w/o kids. Heaven. We're also going in two weeks with 5 of my best girlfriends! We rented a vacation house for our trip this year. CAN'T WAIT!

Things to do? You've got to make a trip down to the old strip, Freemont Street. There are the old casino's that have been renovated. They've got an amazing light show there. Plus lots of street performers and little kiosk booths selling an assortment of goodies.

We like The Orleans, which is a couple of miles off the strip. Its great gambling, an AWESOME buffet, too. They have a movie theatre, a bowling alley and an arena which we saw a hockey game last December.

The strip is great, too. But since we go so often we don't spend much time there. You've got lots of outlet shopping. The Mandalay has a shark exhibit. Tropicana has the Bodies Exhibit, which we want to check out. The Venitian has a museum, called Madam Tassues *sp?*. If you're interested in a show, hit the Tix 4 Tonight or Two 4 One ticket stands for great deals.

For the day, I suggest COMFORTABLE WALKING SHOES!

Have fun!

Hello - I am new to your blog and was going to tell you about my visit almost two decades ago to Vegas... but that would be useless as your readers have MUCH more recent expertise than I (being a tad closer!). I loved it (expected to hate it - it was just part of a Contiki tour I did across America). Great photo opps and LOTS of colour - the Cirque sounds awesome! My only advice - don't gamble, just LOOK! And have fun...

Never been, but understand the plane thing. I have found that a headset with good music helps me forget I'm in the plane. I close my eyes and listen to a teaching tape or something that eases my mind.

I hope you do fantastically well with the flight!

I've never been either but I understand from friends that it is an amazing place with all the lights and glamour. I agree with amber kay, take some good walking shoes as you will do a lot of walking. Have fun!

Oh you'll have such a good time!! My oldest daughter and her new husband just honeymooned in Vegas in January. They had a wonderful time, I know you'll love it. Be sure to take in a show or two, I think that was the most fun thing they did. They also did a fake wedding in one of the wedding chapels just so they could say they did it. Too fun!!

I am so happy for you!!!! Enjoy. Be sure and go on the dam tour. Take lots of pictures for us. To me Caesar's Palace is so beautiful but then it's been a few years since we've been there and there are a lot of the new hotels we haven't seen. Oh, and be sure to go down to the old part of town for the light show. It is free and fantastic.

I really enjoyed Vegas and I am not a gambler so there is something for everyone. Indeed you do alot of walking. I enjoyed just walking down the strip and watching everything. The Pirate show at Treasure Island was pretty cool. All the light shows were fun. We never did go to a show but if we were to go back...we definately would try that.

HAVE FUN!!!

I hate planes - especially when they're crowded. Before our last trip, I bought myself an MP3 player. It really helped get through the flight (without drugs!). Good luck, and have fun!

I've been to Vegas a few times and the best food I've found was at the Hard Rock. Go to Mr.Lucky's 24/7 and ask for the not on the menu steak and shrip special. It is wonderful! You get a great salad, steak, shrimp, garlic mashed potatoes and veggi for under $10.00. The Hard Rock is off the strip but the meal is worth it! Have a wonderful time!

Sounds like FUN!! I have never been there so I have no idea where to tell you to go! I know my brother and sis-in-law went a few years ago. They had a blast. They went to some place that had this HUGE hamburger and if you ate it all you got it for free. Needless to say my brother wasn't able to finish it (it's that BIG)!

I know that no matter what you guys do there you'll have fun! Can't wait to hear and see all the pictures after you get back (ok I'll have to be patient and wait a few months)!

I hope that you have a great time.
Just getting away without kids is nice once in awhile.
I remember that my dad worked on the Hoover Dam when I was only 4 so I don't remember to much. I always wanted to go back as an adult to see the finished project.
I don't do airplanes at all.!!I would have to be put totally out and never told that I was ever up that high.Everyone tells me it is just like sitting in my lazy boy.I think not!!!
Can't wait to see your photos.
Have Fun.

I haven't been to Vegas in many years but what I remember most from my trip was the shows I got to see. That and learning to shoot craps at 2 in the morning on a quarater table somewhere. LOL

Djrugs and an MP3 --I think that should take care of the plane trip!

I've never been to Vegas--It's on my list of places to see. I don't gamble, but just to see the sights and some shows would be fun. I'm excited for you getting to have an adult trip! Have fun!

I'm not a big gambler but there are a lot of great shows. I have not seen it yet, but I heard "Love" is AWESOME! Go see that and let me know if it's worth it ;)

I'm a nerd, but I love seeing the Hoover Dam. If you haven't seen it, it's a must!!!!

And....shop shop shop. I would also stay right on the strip. Planet Hollywood is usually where I stay. Prepare to walk lots
