All State Choir

Courtney and 7 others from our school are singing in the All State Choir that performs in Sioux Falls tomorrow night. She left last night and had practice today and tomorrow and the performance is tomorrow night (8:00 on PBS if anyone local is interested in watching). She has to ("gets to" in her mind) wear a formal for the performance. I sure hope it traveled to SF ok and is not a wrinkled mess right now! So....Chad and I will be leaving tomorrow afternoon (ah, a little break from the harvest) to make the trip there to watch her perform.

Frazzled Fall!

As if we aren't busy enough this time of the year, the pigs have reached their "ham"weight and are ready to be hauled out....grrr! We took one load out this morning and empty that barn next week. The rest to follow in the next few weeks. I got a quick break so I thought I would share that interesting bit of info with you....aren't you glad I did??!!

Noisy

It sure has been noisy around here and is only going to get worse.....

We weaned the calves on Sunday so there has been a lot of bellering going on for the last few days. Some of the cows have given up but the calves are still at it!
We started picking corn yesterday so the dryer will be in full force today. I get so used to the thing running this time of the year that if it shuts off during the night, I immediately wake up and tell Chad.
This farming sure is a noisy business too!

Weekend of Sacraments

This weekend my cousin Heather got married and my nephew Nolan was Confirmed. I did manage to take a few photos at the Confirmation but totally blew off taking pictures of the wedding (I even had my camera along). The pictures are kinda dark because the power in town all went off (including at the church)....probably because of the wind. Uncles Chad and Eric with Nikki and Mitchell!

Rain

Ok people it is raining.....AGAIN! We are so far behind in the field that we really need this rain (and snow) to quit for awhile so we can get our corn out! We haven't even started corn yet, not ONE kernel picked yet....YIKES. Praying for a rainbow and some much needed sun!!!

Time Flies!

We have 1st quarter conferences at school today for Courtney. I can't believe 1 quarter of the school year has passed by already!! I always go to conferences....never missed one for Jeremy. There are lots of parents out there that never go once the kids hit middle and high school. Courtney begs me to go (some teachers give extra credit if the parents show up....like she needs the extra credit!). Do you always go to conferences....how about once they are older??

AWOL

Wow, I guess I have been a little AWOL this last week! We have been working like crazy trying to get the soybeans harvested before the snow that they are predicting for tonight hits. Good news.....we finished up with the soybeans last night!!!! Now onto the corn which is going to be a really slow process. It is still pretty high in moisture so we are going to have to run it through the dryer which takes time and alot of $$$ with the high propane prices. We really need a HARD freeze to help things along. Anyway....hoping to "check in" with you all today while I work on getting the huge mound of dirty laundry done.

Good Week??!!

The cattle are worked. The sun was out yesterday. Lots of volleyball this week. Only 3 more good days of combining and we could have all the beans out. Had a good freeze last night, the corn should dry down so we can combine that. Pheasant hunting this weekend....lots of family will be home to hunt. It's going to be a good week!!!!

YIPEE!

Yippee....all the cows are moved back home. Now we preg test the cows on Monday and also castrate and vaccinate the calves both here and at my in-laws. The kids don't have school, aren't they lucky (it was planned so we could have their help)!

Brrrrr!

It is cold, cloudy, windy and suppose to rain and all I want to do is wrap up in a blanket and read a good book......but instead, I am heading out to move more cows home *sigh*.

Movin' Cows

Chad and I have been busy the last few days hauling cows home. We have gotten them moved home from 2 pastures....have 2 more to go (plan on doing that Friday and Saturday). I have been head to toe mud and cow manure the last few days....if my hubby still finds me attractive after that, it must be love!

Community Effort

We live in such an awesome community! On Friday many of the area farmers got together and harvested a neighbors soybeans for him. Verne and his wife Jayne farm together and Jayne drives truck for him during harvest. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and is currently going through treatments. She is unable to do much and he is busy taking care of her. So.....a bunch of area farmers (not sure of the count at this time, probably between 20 and 25) got together and harvested Verne and Jayne's soybeans for them.

This field had 6 semis lined up ready to haul the beans out and there were 4 combines and 1 grain cart running here. Jeremy and Chad each had a semi and my father-in-law had his combine in this field. There were 14 combines total at many different fields. It was an awesome sight!
