Sad Day
There is sadness here today. Karianne, the foreign exchange student that lives just down the road and went to school here this last year, goes back home to Norway today. She fit in the instant she arrived here in the States. She joined everything....volleyball, basketball, school play and golf to name a few....even though she had never tried any of these before in Norway. She was loved by all the kids. She is such a spunky, outgoing, lovable young lady and always has a smile on her face. My kids picked her up for school every day and brought her home from activities and she was also Jeremy's prom date.

We did a group exchange with a school in Germany my senior year, and it was so hard saying goodbye!! The good thing is, that the girl who stayed with our family has kept in touch with us and has come to visit us in CA a couple of times and here in NM once. So it may not be goodbye for too long. She could be a forever friend in the making!! :-)
Oh, that is a tough one when you get close to someone for a short period of time! Hopefully you can keep in touch and meet up again some day!
My daughter had a wonderful exchange student as a friend, too, so I understand how you are feeling. It has been 2 years since she left, and I can still hear her say my daughter's name with her delightful accent. Thankfully, with the internet they are still able to stay in contact fairly regularly.
Wouldn't that be fun to visit her in her home country? You guys should take a family trip there in a couple of years!
The impact you've had on each others lives will be with you always. With the internet & blogging she can stay very much in touch. I agree.....a trip to Norway in the future would be fantastic and probably something you never would have dreamed of before.
That would be sad.
We are considering having an exchange student at our home next year.
We've been approached a few years in a row here and are thinking about it.
Hi!
I have a new blog address

That's wonderful that the school hosts a foreign exchange program, and that Karianne was accepted by the community.
I'm sure she'll miss you guys too.
oh I'm so sorry. These times are hard, the saying good bye part, but the fun and lasting memories are great to have. Thanks for sharing.
Awww, how sad, but I'm sure that she was such a blessing and that your family is happy that she was a part of your lives, even if for just a year. I hope you all can stay in touch. We had a Japanese exchange student in my high school, but weren't able to stay in touch, she was so sweet, I still think about where she might be today.
What special memories to have. I think it gives our children an appreciation for places they may never get to and for meeting new people. We had an exchange student from Belgium in HS, and I got to know him because he played basketball and I cheered. He was tall, but he was awful at basketball.
