Movin' Cattle Home

The kids didn't have school on Monday so we took advantage of that and moved one pasture of cow/calf pairs home. It was one of our smaller pastures but the worst one to haul home from because we have to set up all the corral panels and then take them down when we are done....I hate that part! Next year we ARE going to build a permanent corral there (we have been saying that for several years now)! Getting them to the trailer.
Getting them in the trailer.
Jeremy and I WATCHING Chad get them in the trailer (ok, Courtney caught the 2 of of us slacking off...she's the one taking pictures). I have a silly grin on my face....I have a feeling there are a few choice words coming out of Chad's mouth at this moment.
Calves can be pretty dumb...here we are STILL getting them in the trailer.
Whew....the front part of the trailer is loaded!
~
Notice Courtney was taking the pictures....she is not a cow girl and would gladly take any other job than be around the cattle! She HAS gotten a lot better but we are still working on it.
~
The kids don't have school again on Friday so we are planning on moving the other 2 pastures of cow/calf pairs home next weekend. Stay tuned....maybe more pictures to come.

Yep I remember the days of dumb calves. But as a kid I had a great time. Now I see it from a totally different viewpoint!

that was our plan yesterday too, until we found out we couldn't get the calf tub. so now we're hoping for friday and saturday to get it done. I love working with cattle - just not when they're fiesty.

How nice of your children to help when they don't have school. Even if it is to take pictures! :)

I SO could never work/live on a farm. Camping for 2-3 days is as dirty as I'm willing to get. I'm sure farming would totally mess up my nails, huh? lol

Man you guys work hard to keep your farm running. Way to go. I better your daughter was thrilled when you asked her to take pics. LOL.

I just can't imagine any choice words coming during that whole process!

I am with Courtney...I think I would be on the camera end...unless I really had to help. ;)

I bet that was a good job to get done.
We got lots accomplished around the home and yard too with our long 4 day weekend.

Keep posting those pictures. I am so ignorant about a farmer's life, and all the equipment that goes with it! You sure have some hard work to do, and I stand in awe at how strong you must be!

It's great to see kids spending their day off from school helping mom and dad.

Now that does sound like an interesting project

I could almost hear Chad! Funny how the 'choice words' comment brought back a flood of memories of working with different livestock farmers. Must be part of the job.

I would have loved helping with this job. Looks like a fun day to me!

My poor non-farmer boys. One of them saw me reading your blog and said, "I didn't know your cousin Chris had horses." (I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, maybe from a distance it did look like you were working with horses!)

So what will you do when your helpers move off to college?

Yeah, I would be the one with the camera too. I remember helping on my grandparents farm and having to do this. I could never get the stupid calf to move and my grandpa would yell at me to just twist their tail and they will move. YEAH RIGHT. Like I am going to walk behind something that could either kick me or poop on me. Needless to say, its a good thing I grew up in town. I don't think I would have made it on the farm. Glad you are able to do it, you are a much better woman than I!!!!

Man - I was using some choice words just watching that process!!!

Choice words are normal when you are working with cows! I love working cattle! We have to set up pens at a few of our lease places and it is a pain. We have being saying we need to get permanent ones, but never have. It is always on the list with a million other things!!

Hilarious!

I'd rather move cattle than brand them. Ugh!
