Workin' Cattle

Today we worked my in-laws cattle. We were supposed to do ours tomorrow but we rescheduled for next Wednesday due to the mud and the rain that is supposed to be on the way again tomorrow.

Chad running the calves into the tub. (I ended up helping him with this job part way through) Calves were first then we did the cows.

Here I am at the tub...helping to get them into the alleyway. I am smiling so you can tell it is early on in the day!

My mother-in-law (Sharon) running them down the alleyway to my father-in-law (Al).

Al getting them into the squeeze chute for the Vet and his assistant to work.

Chad snapped this picture of me when we got done....I didn't get too muddy but did get a little wet as a rain shower came through right before we got done. It could have been WAY worse...it could have rained the whole time.

When we got done working cattle, we had to go to the hog barns to get the remaining 1050 feeder pigs in. We now have the hog barns filled again which is a nice job to have done. I will check them in tomorrow with my sister (who happens to be our Territory Manager for the pigs) and hope to vaccinate them this weekend.

Whew, I had a lot of catching up to do at the farm!

I LOVE coming over here because you all look like you are having fun doing all this really hard, messy work! AND--I learn something every time. Love the lesson soybeans.

I'm still on a semi break--Just catching up now--I'll be posting again in a couple of days.

Somebody's been working hard!

I see I missed Jeremy's big 18th birthday. Please tell him belated Happy Birthday from Pam in Florida.

It looks like it is cold where you are. Its so good that you make these huge chores into fun. Enjoy each moment together.

You amaze me Chris that you do all this work, with a smile, and a wonderful attitude. I don't think I could....maybe that's why God's allowed me to be a City Girl!!

Hey! I'm liking the looks of that tub. We have a pen with two gates that we use in unison to move them from one side to another...works okay until somebody gets a bee in their bonnet...then not so good. Glad you got that half of them worked, pretty messy work with all this rain.

You have been working hard.
Good thing there is something to do when it just keeps on raining.
My parents are in the same boat with all this rain..and not being able to get out to the field.
Now it will take awhile for the fields to dry out.

Farm livin' is the life for me and it looks like for you too!!! You have some great handling equipment there. We get lots of friends and run them into our drive through and then hopefully into the trailer. =)
