Brrrrr!

It has been so cold here the last few days. Today was a little better but the wind was still blowing pretty bad! I guess it's winter and I should be ready for it but it's a rude awakening every year.

Chad spent most of the day yesterday getting the tractors and truck running (we have to have them to feed and water the cows and calves). It was cold enough for the fuel to gel in some of them. I don't know if a lot of you are familiar with the diesel situation or not but fuel is hard to get right now and is over $4/gallon. The last I knew we couldn't even get #1 fuel from our local Cenex but Chad did get some yesterday at a station in another town and I don't even want to know what he paid for that! I am just thankful that my suburban can run on E85, that helps a little on the fuel bill.

I wish it would get colder here. I love the cold, but it's still in the 60's on the NC coast...blah. I can't imagine the time and money you put into your farm machinery...I almost have a heart attack filling up my Jeep that is not even a 4 wheel drive...eeek!

Where will the gas crisis end?! It is really hard to believe. We don't use vehicles as much as we did before retirement, so it doesn't touch us like those of you who are so dependent on gas for your work, etc. such a problem--wish someone would get find some answers, SOON!

I love it when it turns cold, but I don't have to work outside, either! Right now, there's a fire going in the fireplace and I'm snuggled up in my recliner in my sweats and sweatshirt. Aahh....
I know that the gas crisis touches you more than it touches me. I hate paying over $3.00/gal much less over $4.00. Do you think we'll ever be independent of oil? {Sigh}

Ain't that the truth.

Chris, do you get good mileage out of the E85? My car is flexible fuel too but I get significantly less miles out of a tankful of E85 than I get from 10% Ethanol. Just wondering?!

Don't tell me about the price of diesel! We heat our house with fuel oil which is only about $.27 a gallon less than at the pump. Historically we have used 1200 gallons a year. OUCH!!!

Needless to say, we are feeling it this year. Every window that even remotely feels drafty gets the old 3M plastic treatment and the thermostat is set lower than ever before.

Rose....no, the milage isn't as good with E85 but with the price difference right now between 10% and E85 it definitely pays off. I think Chad figured it once and I think he figured a 10% difference is where it starts to pay off.

Michelle....we are so thankful that we put geo-thermal heating and cooling in our new house. Cheryl heats with fuel oil too...ouch. Has it been hard for you to get heating fuel? There is a shortage of that here too.

Yup I'm afraid winter is on the way. I was thinking about putting on my snow pants yesterday for extra warmth when I was outside! Didn't quite resort to that though..he he :)! Heard something about snow this weekend...that could be interesting!

Have a great day and stay warm!

Gas is insane! I wish it would get(or at least stay) cold. I love the cold. It is perfect for snuggling up under the covers and staying all cozy:)

I actually don't mind this cold weather. Mother nature can keep her snow and 40 below temps...no thanks to those!

Have a good day!

Wow, we've been paying well over 4$/gallon FOREVER! We're at 1.10L (about 4L in a gallon right?) and with the $ at par, we fill up in the states as often as we can!! Yikes!! Good thing we're heading down this weekend! Heck, we need to make sure there's enough gas in the car to get across the border though - dang those line-ups!

I didn't realize that diesel was hard to get, I am not sure where you are, but we are not having a problem getting it here in Michigan. Which is good news for us because we have 2 diesel vehicles.

We are expecting a winter storm this weekend!

I agree about the price of diesel. We are paying about what you are for the tractor and combin. We have tried the new bio diesel and we like it but we can only get 20 gal at a time and travel for an hour to get more so we use the local type. Weather is cold here to and storms are to come in on Sunday. Good luck with the winter chores. The time to put on all those clothes is for the birds.
