We are the proud owners of 50 more cows.
We bought 50 Angus cows at the sale yesterday. They are all pregnant with their second calf and will calve in April. They come from a very reputable ranch here in SD.... they sold all their commercial stock and are now getting into registered cattle. They sold over 800 head yesterday.....I sure wish I could have had that check!!!!
Now we need to run them all through the head gate and ear tag them all....I think the plan is to do that tomorrow! I know...it's supposed to be a day of rest but here on the farm we don't always get a day of rest.

Good for you guys!!! I'm sure writing out that check wasn't fun but in the long run it will be a good money maker.
I hope the weather cooperates tomorrow for you!!! Brrrr... it's yucky out today!!!

I don't think you ever rest!!!!
Susan
Congratulations! Sounds like a good purchase. I have never given much thought to cow shopping, sounds kind of funny when you think about it, but I enjoy reading your endeavors. Farming is the back bone of our country.
I was thinking along the same lines as Susan - I don't think you ever get to rest!
Stay warm!
Again, a whole 'nuther life that I can't even imagine. I love reading and learning. Congrats!
I was at a cattle auction today! My parents dispersed their herd of beef cows - 248 Charolais cows and 165 calves (well, technically calves but the biggest one was 1140 pounds!). I hope you're making a better living with your cattle then we are up here in Canada :(
Wow that is a lot of cows. I would love to see pics of them all:)
Holy Cow...heheheh. 50 cows? Do you milk them all?
Just wondering...not that I have any plans to buy one...but what does the average cow go for?
Congrats! You got 2-for-1 on all your cows :) You're a great shopper
A day of rest! I'd say you don't get many hours--I get tired just reading aobut all you do!
Pictures?? I know you're working; but, you know, some of us have never seen a cow get an ear tag! Is that sort of like getting your ears pierced--cow style!:-)
Yay! Congratulations - I hope you do well with them :)
Amanda.... No, we don't milk cows...we raise beef cows...and we paid $1475/cow on Friday.
Myrna....yes...tagging them is alot like piercing ears!
Susan and Momma Roar....oh yes, we do get some rest.
Congratulations on your purchase! Nice that they're second calf mommas, that'll go lots easier come spring.
