Bitter Cold!

What does a farm wife do on a bitter cold day?? Load pigs.....grrrrr!

It was -24 yesterday morning and all I wanted to do was snuggle up in a warm bed......but duty called and we had 4 loads of pigs to send out starting at 7 am. They didn't want to go out any more than I did so it was a very difficult day of loading to put it mildly!

We were going to work at the hog site all day and get some repairs and maintenance done but since it was so cold, when we finished with the stuff that we had to get done (about 1:00), we called it a day (outside anyway). It took me until about 4:00 to warm up!

All I have to say is Thank God that the wind was not blowing and can spring please come soon??!!

I thought it was cold here last night! We had 24*. There was no - in front of our number! Br-r-r-r! I can't believe you had to work in that! I agree with Susan! You amaze me, too!

I used to hate going out in the cold too! Do you have a wheat bag that you warm up in the microwave? It's a wonderful way of getting warm after being thoroughly chilled.

It's a balmy +80 here in Miami today. I looked at the date on the restaurant receipt and thought "no, it can't be February with weather like this!"

I remember those last events of high school days with our kids. So proud of them and yet slightly sad that things are ending. Take care!

Don't the pigs get cold? I mean, it's not like they have all the wool that sheep have. How do they stay warm?

I don't mean to correct you but you accidentally wrote that the temp was -20 something. As in NEGATIVE!!!! AHHHHH!!!!!
I've always wondered why they don't stop counting at zero. Once it's below that, I don't see the point ;)

Hello Chris. What a brave wife. My Hubby has made it so easy I don't have to help anymore. We have down sized a lot too. I do remember the days when I was out in temps like that. I pray the weather warms up for you then I know it will warm up for us.

Love and Hugs,
Joyce

Ach! I really hate the cold. At least you were doing a job with lots of moving around to help keep you body temp up. Hope it warms up soon too!!

I can't fathom -24. I'm in WA and it's warming to early, I'm worried about the fruit and flowers. I work with my husband in a family biz also and if it were -24 he might have to drag me out of bed kicking and screaming. Good Luck! J Trout

It was almost that cold this weekend when I was taking care of the stable where my horses are boarded this winter. The owner had eye surgery so we all were helping out. It really does take a while to warm up, I usually get in a hot shower and just let it run and run!!!! I'm glad the horses don't mind it, although we keep them in if there is a wind chill factor.

Inquiring minds want to know...how hard is it to load hogs? do you use paddles? hotshots? do they turn back on you? hope it warms up soon
