Almost Ready for Prom

Holy Smokes, girls are WAY different than boys when it comes to prom! Jeremy ordered his tux last week and I am supposed to order the flowers for his date (he is not a flower guy).....done deal.

Now, Courtney and prom are a TOTALLY different story. I bought her a dress a few weeks ago. Since then, she has had to make a nail appointment (hello, we never cared about our finger nails in high school), and has made a hair appointment (we never did this either but ok, I can see the point on this one). Yesterday I took her to town to finish up buying things. She needed a garter (I don't remember doing this either), jewelry (this one I actually did for prom), ordered shoes (I just wore some heels that I already had), hair jewelry (I never would have spent money on this in HS) and make-up just for the day (what's wrong with the make-up she wears every day?).

The difference between Courtney and me.....she is high maintenance.....I am very low to no maintenance! Ok, you are all thinking, she is a young hip teenager and I am an old un-hip mom.....you are right!

My experience.....boys are way easier and CHEAPER when it comes to prom.

I will have 2 girls in a row doing prom. Then my son. I know I am in for it with my girls. I did all of that stuff for my prom too. It cost us a small fortune. LOL. I am sure she is going to have a BLAST though!

Hair jewelery even shows up at horse shows. I can't get over all the little princesses with the crystal studs in their little horse show buns. My how the world has changed.........except for tuxes! lol

Oh, I LOVED prom. I think you're doing a perfect job as a low-maintenance mom for a high-maintenance gal! I remember my sister doing my hair and make-up, my mom doing my nails, borrowing jewelry....I bought new shoes though. A garter? Hmmmm, now THAT'S a new one. Ah, the good ole days!

uh, oh....I have two coming someday....Or maybe not. Perhaps I should be a ban in place now of "no proms"...think that would work? Courtney's going to look beautiful no matter what she does but all the primping will be worth it.

I was more like you when I went to my (then) boyfriends prom in grade 10 (5 years ago, eep). Made my own dress, my Mom curled my hair and I wore shoes that were already in my closet...I don't think I even put on makeup!

OH my! She will be beautiful-of course you will need to post some pics! I am with you on the low maintenace! I have never been high maintenance, but that is just me! I am glad, because doing what I do everyday-high mainteanance wouldn't work! LOL!

I have always wondered about boys since I have girls. Only one went to prom and It was diffferent 10 years ago. Have a grand time with both going and enjoy since it will pass very fast.

Love and Hugs,
Joyce

I would do that for my daughter even though I didn't do it myself.

A garter?! What does she need a garter for? That's odd, to me.

Oh your post scares me b/c my Drama Queen is a high maintenance girl at the age of almost 10. I can't imagine her HS age. Oy.

I'm with you on this one. I have two boys, one is still too young to be concerned about all these type things yet. So easy street for me when it came to senior year things and end of the year banquets, etc. My son is quite picky about his hair though! I watch my girfriend go through so much with her 3 daughters. It's like a full time job just meeting their maintenance needs!

She'll be gorgeous! If you think this is bad wait until her wedding comes along. I have two high maintenance girls and a high maintenance son. The two oldest drained my bank account during high school. I've no doubt the youngest will be worse. LOL!

Well, actually, the boys often expect to wear hair dye and earrings as well as the girls, don't they?

Take care.
