Silage

A few of you asked so here is the explanation of silage from a farm wife's mouth......
It is corn that is chopped....the stalk, leaves, ear, the whole thing. It is chopped, dumped into a truck and hauled to a pile. The person at the pile is pushing the silage onto the pile with a loader tractor and packing it. We use it to feed the cows in the winter. They love it! Not a real technical description but I hope you get the idea.
We are starting our pile today so if I get a chance, I will take a few pictures of the process.

You did a good job on your description.
I am amazed when I see a tractor clear up on the pile and not falling through. Is it better for the cows than just corn?
Have a great day and God bless

Ha, silage...it's the stuff that comes out of my dad's shirts, socks, boots, cuffs, collars....

Silage - it's the stuff that collects in the washing machine.

Silage....ah yes, silage.

I didn't realize that you chopped up everything. No wonder the cows like it! The raccoons here like the corn but not the stalks.

That of a excelent way of putting into words what silage is and how it is made. I hope the work is going well and the rain is staying away for you. For us we are in the path of Ike as it passes through the United States. Rain from this past Thursday to the middle of this next week. so far we have gotten 3 inches and hope not to much flooding.

Love and Hugs,
Joyce
