AWOL

Wow, I guess I have been a little AWOL this last week! We have been working like crazy trying to get the soybeans harvested before the snow that they are predicting for tonight hits. Good news.....we finished up with the soybeans last night!!!! Now onto the corn which is going to be a really slow process. It is still pretty high in moisture so we are going to have to run it through the dryer which takes time and alot of $$$ with the high propane prices. We really need a HARD freeze to help things along. Anyway....hoping to "check in" with you all today while I work on getting the huge mound of dirty laundry done.

I don't normally pray for a hard freeze, but for you I will.

Stay warm.

I can't imagine how busy you guys must be during this time. I hope everything goes well with the corn. I will be doing laundry with you today. I have several piles to catch up on too.:)

We are headed to Nebraska this weekend to help move cattle. The forecast is overcast, windy, and rain mixed with sleet/snow. Fantastic.

I hate laundry. Especially this time of year. TJ works in construction so he's mud from head to toe when he gets home. Its not only on his clothes but then when he comes in the house the mud chunks spray all over the floors. Its a viscious cycle.

I didn't realize that a hard freeze was good for the corn. Learn something new every day!!!

Sounds like you have been really really busy! Glad to hear you got the beans out. I hope we don't get any snow...not really ready for that yet!

I can't believe they are predicting snow already!!! Good thing the kids can fit their winter coats under their costumes!!! That's trick-or-treating in SD for you!!!

Glad to hear that you got the beans out. Yes they have a winter snow watch for us here for tomorrow and Thursday.
I am so not ready for that white stuff. They are also calling for high winds.
God Bless you.

I pray you get the frost to help you.

Hello Chris, Around here some beans are still green because of all the rain we had the first part of June. We will get our first hard freeze tonight which means low yields from now on. One field of ours did good and hope to get the other field out Wednesday. Then on to corn. Good luck on the rest of your harvest.

Love and Hugs,
Joyce

I must know how long it takes to dry corn. A local farmer put up a dryer and three bins in the field right next to our place. The roar of it kept me up all night last night. It may be a long fall if I don't get used to the noise. I wish he would have put it up closer to his house...he probably didn't want to hear it, huh? Ugh. That's what I get for wanting to be in the country. I gave up the street noise for corn dryer roar!

Did you get snow? We are usually about a day behind you guys in the weather department.

Snow?! Eeeek! I'm not ready for snow yet. Fortunately, we should have at least another month and a half without it.

Seems like I'm always learning something new from you. I didn't know a freeze wouldn't hurt corn I thought it was bad. And I didn't know you could put it into a dryer! Ok, you can tell I know NOTHING about farming. Take Care :)
