Teenagers and Tanning

My 15 year old recently began going to a tanning bed. We were not for this at all since her grandpa has had several spots of skin cancer removed and has "suspicious" spots removed every 4 months when he goes to his specialist. My husband and I discussed it and finally caved after weeks of her begging. The main reason I caved was that some of her "friends" and alot of other kids in school were calling her names (albino). I hate that I caved for that reason and I hate that kids can be so cruel! She is alot like me and I know what it is like to be light skinned and made fun of for it. Anyway, the reason I am writing this it I want a little imput as to how you all feel on the subject of tanning and teenagers and tanning.

Can't have any input because I know nothing about tanning. Probably shouldn't have even commented but I wanted you to know I'd dropped by and say "hi".

SO glad you have a blog! I will be stopping by daily!
I am mixed about the teenagers and tanning. It is so hard to be "different" and I know how that affects kids. My mom let me tan as a junior and senior for prom only. I am not a huge fan of tanning beds myself because of the dangers, but don't like my pasty, white skin either! I have found a really good self-tanner (Jergens Natural Glow moisturizer) that works great and looks natural. That might be something Courtney can try before going to the tanning bed.

I love it when I have a tan and luckily have naturally dark skin. With Courtney's light skin, I'm sure she's more at risk. All I can say is see how her skin reacts. If she goes for just a few minutes at a time and does get a little tan, not just burned, it may be ok for special occasions. I would have her use the self tanner Teresa recommended. I use it too and really like it.

Have you heard of the jergens natural glow face and body? i love this stuff. I am very light also. But, don't know how I feel about tanning, so i started using the jergens last summer and loved the results. Takes extra work, but it looks so natural.
