September on the Farm

September on the farm has been very busy and is going by quickly!

I have been blessed with lots of fresh veggies from the garden and have been making lots of "interesting" meals.
I make up recipes all the time, adding just a little bit of this and some of that etc., depending on what is available in the garden at the time!
Above is a veggies dish with home grown sweet corn, tomatoes, zucchini and summer squash.

We ordered a new "working system" (tub, alley and chute) for our cattle.
We will use it to run the cattle through to "work" them (vaccinate, preg check, castrate, dehorn, tag etc.). We need to fit the new working system into our lot so we tore out our existing corral and are totally redoing it.  We don't have very much of it done yet but are working on it every chance we get!  It's a time consuming project and we are running out of time.  Cattle need to be moved home from pastures in about a month and need to be worked at that time.

We cut 3 silage piles this year, one at our place, one for a friend and one for my father-in-law.  We had plenty of help with that (FIL, the friend, hubby and son) so the only thing I had to help with was tarping our pile! I did make dinner the 2 days they were here but I still had some free time to get a few things done around the garden, yard and house!

The crops are maturing very quickly and it looks like harvest is just around the corner!  It is now "crunch time", time to get as much done as we can before the harvest starts.  Once the harvest begins, that is what all of our time and energy is spent on.

September is almost done, where has the time gone????

As I've been saying for about 5 years now...."You guys amaze me". Families like yours are what America use to be all about and I'm glad there are some of you left!!!! Will you relax a little this winter?
