My New Favorite Item

I just bought myself a Flat Wallet from Funbags and Accessories in the Watertown Mall. One of my best friends from high school owns the store and also the one in Brookings too.

I wasn't too sure about this when I bought it but absolutely LOVE it! Courtney talked me into buying her one too and she loves hers just as much as I love mine. It holds my checkbook, checkbook register, credit cards, cash, change and a pen too. There is still room for more if you need. My girlfriend (Jodi) even had lip gloss in hers. Go out and get yourself one ladies, you will love it...$24.99 for the one with the checkbook holder, $19.99 without the checkbook holder. If you get it at Funbags and Accessories, tell them that I sent you!

This and That

I FINALLY got my garden planted.....YIPEE! Not alot in it this year....spinach (which my kids LOVE), lettuce, brussel sprouts (never tried growing these before but my kids really like them), green beans, peas, cucumbers, dill, squash, tomatoes and green peppers. I hope to get some salsa made this year, we have none left....and hopefully some dill pickles too.

Courtney played Taps on her trumpet at a Memorial Day service today. She did very good and it was a great program. Jeremy and Chad....well, they were working while we attended the program. Courtney and I had to make a run for soybean seed as soon as the program was done, didn't even get to stick around and enjoy bars and coffee.

Courtney's relay team didn't qualify for the finals at the State Track meet but they did good and I did get to go watch her on Friday at the prelims. The rest of the kids did good too, unfortunately nobody placed so we didn't even get any points. Oh well, having 11 kids out of the 20 kids out for track qualify for the State Meet is GREAT!

More work to do tomorrow....hopefully we can finish up with the planting this week. Both kids have dentist appointments tomorrow, the track awards program is tomorrow night and Courtney has a softball game tomorrow night too. Always on the go around here!! Hope you all had a good Memorial Day.

Calgon....take me away!

The corn is planted-whew! Started on soybeans yesterday. Almost all of the cows and calves have been hauled to pasture. I need a break!!!! Oh yeah, I just had one last weekend...oops. We have been putting in 12-14 hour days and it seems like it was weeks ago that I had a break.

Good news....got an e-mail yesterday letting us know that both Jeremy and Courtney made it on the South Dakota Shooting Sports Team. They will be competing at Nationals. Jeremy in Air Pistol and Courtney in .22 Pistol. This year the Nationals are in Grand Island, Nebraska. I guess we will be taking a vacation this summer after all!

I have some time tonight so I am off to sit in the hot tub......ahhhhhh!

Nolan and Kassidy

Nolan and Kassidy had their 8th grade graduation last week and I was lucky enough to sneak away from the farm for a little bit so I could attend the graduation. Nolan is our nephew (my sister is his mom) and Kassidy is our niece (Chad's brother is her dad) and they were both born on the same day....how cool is that??!! They are both awesome kids!Nolan and Kassidy!

State Track Meet

Courtney's Medley Relay team (Lexi, Courtney, Dani and Tayler) qualified for the State Track meet. So, we have ONE more track meet left for the year.

It was a good meet, we had a few little showers come through but otherwise it was sunny the rest of the time and gorgeous out. Jeremy placed 8th in Shot Put and 6th in Discus (he threw his personal best for his track career) and Courtney's 4x100 relay team placed 7th, her medley relay team 2nd and she placed 3rd in Shot Put.

Chad was able to get some corn in yesterday and get some spraying done too.....YIPPEE.

My brother graduates from college tomorrow so Courtney and I are heading out to Rapid City today to be there for the ceremony tomorrow. We are taking my sister Rochelle and her 2 kids Nikki and Mitchell with us and my other sister Cheryl is coming with her husband and son Nolan and are also bringing my Grandma with them. Chad and Jeremy are staying home to hopefully get some more corn planted and some more spraying done! So.....it is going to be another BUSY weekend!

Movin' Cows

We have been moving cows the last few days. We got 64 cow/calf pairs moved to pasture but are taking a break from that today.

The kids have their last track meet today. The meet is about an hour and a half away....bummer...I traveling that far for activities.

Chad was hoping to get some corn planted today but a rain shower decided to move through our area....bummer again. Hopefully he can go this afternoon. We have lots of planting and spraying to do!!!

My Son.....a High School Graduate!

Jeremy in his cap and gown before the graduation ceremony.

Larame, Stephen and Jeremy....waiting to graduate.

Jeremy receiving his diploma.

Jeremy....giving me a rose. They read a fathers poem first and then each graduate gives their mother a rose.

Jeremy....wiping his tears after giving me the rose and a hug. It's a good thing you can't see my face....I was almost sobbing at this point.

The recessional....Jeremy and Denise (one of his good friends).

Whew....it's all over!

Made it!!

I made it through graduation....and with only a few tissues! It was a great day even though it rained most of the day. I will post pictures when I get a chance. I am off to do some fencing all day today so we can get the cows turned out to pasture this week but am hoping to find time maybe this evening to download pictures.

Ready??!!

Ok, I think I am ready for graduation.....as ready as I am going to be anyway!
I can't believe my son is going to be graduating from High School tomorrow! It seems like just yesterday that I was holding this tiny little baby in my arms and now he is graduating from High School. I can't believe how fast those years went by. I am so proud of the young man that he has turned out to be. He is a kind, gentle, fun and responsible young man. I know he is ready to be sent out into the world for bigger and better things.

Planting Corn!

We finally got some corn planted-YIPPEE! Got a little in on Monday and a little bit in on Tuesday and then got rained out but were able to get quite a bit planted yesterday. Chad is hoping to get a good day in today too but the forecast looks like more rain on the way.

My garden still hasn't gotten tilled. Priorities....corn planting and graduation!

I have most of the stuff ready for graduation....just need to vacuum the basement, clean the last bathroom and do some last minute touch-ups on Saturday morning. It's coming up fast!

UPDATE: Rained out again! GRRRRR!

This and That

This week is filled with a little bit of this and a little bit of that!

We got started planting corn yesterday.....yeah! Right now it is clouding over and looks like it could rain at any time...boo! There is a 50% chance but we were hoping the rain would hold off now until we could the crops all in.

Last night was the annual "Academic Awards Night" at the school. Both kids got several awards. Jeremy received his National Honor Society cords and medallion to be worn at graduation and his 2 year NHS pin, Regents Scholar award, Student of the Month award (April), Presidents Academic Achievement award, Drama award, Wendy's Heisman Award and the John Phillip Sousa Band Award. Courtney received Student of the Month award (September), Newspaper Editor award, Journalism award, Drama pin, Peer Helper pin, Student council pin and she was inducted into the National Honor Society.

This afternoon is the Conference track meet.....oh, update on last weekend's track meet, neither one of the kids placed last week at the Howard Wood Relays. Courtney's shot put event was cancelled on Friday night due to weather and she ran 2 relays Sat. that did not place. Jeremy hurt his knee last Thursday and I took him in on Friday....the doctor seems to think he might have torn his PCL (he already has a torn PCL on the other knee). He chose not to throw at the meet to give it a chance to heal a little. This is a huge all state meet so he figured he would not place and it would be a good one to sit out and give his knee some time to mend.

I am trying to get my garden in, was hoping to get it tilled today-IF the rain holds off.

Oh, and have I mentioned that I need to get a house ready for graduaion??!! For some reason I am not worked up about that yet....kinda scares me that I am not.

Baccalaureate

Last night the Baccalaureate services were held for the graduating class of 2008. The pastor had a wonderful sermon and the music that was performed was awesome. We are down to less than a week until Jeremy graduates from High School. So far I have not cried....I am afraid I am really going to lose it at graduation. One part of the graduation service is when the graduates all bring their mothers a rose while music is played, usually some slow tear jerking song.....I have a feeling I will not be able to get through that without a few tears.

It will be a long, busy week getting ready for graduation.....please pray that I keep my sanity and composure during this time.

Rain Rain Go Away....Come Again Another Day!

And when I say come again another day.....I mean several weeks from now. I have to be careful what I wish for because they are saying we will be in a drought again this year.....grrrrr!

Chad is itching to get into the field, especially since we have Jeremy's graduation right in the middle of planting season. Please pray that we get our crops in and stay healthy and safe (and sane) while doing it.

The kids have a track meet in SF tomorrow. I sure hope this weather straightens out because I really don't want to sit through a rainy (or snowy), windy, cold track meet and I don't want my kids to have to participate in those conditions either!

Take Care....Hope you all have a good weekend!

Archery Photos

My sister sent me some pictures of the kids shooting archery this weekend. I had my camera along all weekend but did not take one picture. Thanks Cheryl for picking up the slack for me. Courtney and Jeremy on the archery line.

Courtney shooting at an animal during the 3-D shoot. My brother Eric is behind her giving her some "instructions". Yeah Uncle Eric!

Jeremy shot this animal right up the nostril......GO JEREMY!

Jeremy, Courtney, Jesse (a friend of Eric's who also helped the kids), Nolan, Benson (a kid that was shooting by himself so we invited him to shoot with us), and Eric.

I gotta tell you, that 3-D shoot was so fun....I think I am addicted!
